The classification and distribution of languages of the world and a survey of linguistic structures as exemplified by selected languages. This course offers an introduction to the basic analyses of human languages and language families around the world.  It will present the overview of the world’s languages and discuss the diversities, the similarities, and the relationships between them.  A number of major languages will be linguistically analyzed in more detail.
