Linguistics Ph.D. Student, Betsy Miller, recently represented UGA’s Office of Instruction as a student panelist at the Southeast Regional Conference for the International Center for Academic Integrity held at Emory University October 25-26, 2019. She was commended for representing the department with insightful comments about her experiences serving as academic honesty student panelist. Betsy has been working for the Office of Instruction since the Spring of 2018 as an academic honesty student panelist and became a member of the Multiple Violations Review Board this school year. As a student member, Betsy’s job is to uphold UGA’s Culture of Honesty and the Student Honor Code by allowing for fair and honest discussions about potential violations of these policies between the alleged violators, their professors, and representatives from both the faculty and student bodies. She feels that while this work can have its challenges, ensuring that these hearings are fair to both students and faculty and protecting the integrity of the degrees earned at the University of Georgia is rewarding.
